ROMANS 3 – THE LOVE OF CHRIST

TODAY’S FOCUS CHAPTER

Romans chapter 3.

I encourage you to read the entire chapter of Romans 1 twice prior to reading the devotional thoughts below. It is important to note that although devotionals are helpful resources, they cannot replace reading and studying the chapter in context.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT

Do we truly understand the love and grace of Christ?

The Apostle Paul shows us the love of Christ so beautifully in this chapter. The love of Christ will draw us to a place of gratitude and humility when we understand how underserved this love is. Christ did not make his mercy, grace, and love available to a people that already got it all right without him. Christ did not decide to love us because we were so lovable.

While we were still sinners, he extended his grace to us. And through his sacrifice, we are made righteous. Many moralists will become understandably upset about this. Moralists believe that our works make us either good or bad people. They think that our works make us either righteous or unrighteous. But we understand that, indeed, none of us are good, none of us are righteous and it is ONLY through Christ we are made righteous.

But when we truly understand the sacrificial gift of Jesus, our response is not, ‘great let me go live a life that doesn’t please Christ’, or ‘let me go live a life completely opposite of Christ’. On the contrary, when we really understand the love of Christ, this revelation causes us to desire to surrender everything we are to Him and follow Him where ever he goes. The truth is that Christ’s grace, mercy, and love sets us free through His sacrifice.

And our daily remembrance of his love and sacrifice humbles us to follow Him.
